Tip #1
Try to post regularly on your Twitter account. One of the advantages of Twitter is the smaller post size, but that smaller post size generally comes with the expectation of constant updates. You should aim to update your feed at least once every two days to begin with, but in the case of Twitter more quantity is better. If you can update everyday or even multiple times a day you should be able to generate a lot more interest in your Twitter feed.
Tip #2
Think about interesting additions that could form additional Twitter posts. Even if you have nothing to report on your own life, Twitter micro-blogging is perfect for things like facts you find interesting, quotes that you really love or short lists of things that you enjoy from numerous different categories. Twitter is as much about expressing your own habits and tastes as it is about keeping people apprised of your life as it happens. Keep that in mind whenever you write a post.
Tip #3
Even though Twitter is arguably a lot more about consistent updates than regular blogging, you should still not post that much fluff. As tip #2 suggests, make sure that your posts really reflect the person that you are. You want your feed to give followers insights into you as a person, that way they will always come back for more. Quotes should reflect your favorites and everything else should also in some way shine a light into the type of person that you are.
Tip #4
Make sure that you have fun with Twitter. Don’t let it take over your life, because its biggest advantage is that it should only take a few minutes each day. Also, don’t get too serious about it because it is supposed to be one of the more fun web 2.0 sites. If you feel yourself devoting too much time to it or losing interest in the fun aspects of the service, take a break from it for awhile. If need be, you can even delete your Twitter account later on if things get really bad.
Reason #1
Twitter is all the rage at the current moment in time, but that could change in the future. Web 2.0 websites are only as good as the number of people that use them, so the best time to use Twitter is right now when it is hugely popular. If you were to wait and it became less popular in the future, you would get far less out of using Twitter than you can get right now.
Reason #2
Twitter allows you to update a group of people following your Twitter feed on events that happen in your life. If you ever had problems with the length of blog posts, you can fix that right now with Twitter. All you need to do is write one or two sentences per post. You give your followers just enough to keep them interested and you can do it multiple times a day to make sure their attention remains fixed on your Twitter feed.
Reason #3
Twitter is a lot easier to maintain than normal blogging. This is because a single post only takes a few moments for you to actually put out. You can do it in a few minutes before work, a few minutes after work or you can even do it on the commute to work if you take public transit and have a mobile device handy that has the Twitter mobile software installed on it.
Reason #4
There are many interesting people that have Twitter accounts. Many of the greatest writers, singers, artists, comedians and celebrities maintain Twitter accounts. If you use Twitter, you can follow the accounts of those people and see what they are up to each day. Many of them post diligently on Twitter and for that reason give you a lot of information that you can use in conversations with friends and family.
What is Twitter?
Twitter is a social networking tool and a website that is part of the web 2.0 movement that has taken over the internet in recent years. To put it simply, Twitter is a form of micro-blogging that has become very popular over the last few months.
What is micro-blogging?
Micro-blogging is the same thing as regular blogging except the size of the average post is a lot smaller. For example, a regular blog post might be hundreds of words long. A blog post on Twitter or a similar micro-blogging website will only be a few sentences long at most. The idea behind micro-blogging is to allow someone to have a running commentary on their life in short snippets for other people to see. Rather than posting a few times a week in large posts, you instead write one or two sentences several times a day.
How much does Twitter cost?
At the current moment, Twitter is a completely free to use service. There appears to be no risk to it accruing a cost at some point in the future because one of the basic principles of web 2.0 is that the sites are free to use. Twitter is able to get millions of dollars from their advertising revenue anyway, so there is no need for them to risk potentially alienating millions of customers by instituting a fee. If they did, some other micro-blogging service would come along with free service and steal all of their online popularity.
Is Twitter easy to use?
It is as easy to use as any blogging service. If you know how to blog in general terms, you should have no trouble jumping right in and using Twitter right away. If you need any help with the finer points of the service, you can refer to their helpful guides to light your way.
